Essential Oils for Beginners - 7 Mistakes Not to Make in Buying Essential Oils

by Kathryn Caywood, LLC

Essential oils are written about more often now, and many people who have read about their benefits will be going out to buy their first bottle this year. A lot of them will make some of the same mistakes I did when I bought my first bottle. Here's a list of 7 things you can do wrong!

1. Buying from the wrong vendor. Can the vendor assure you that the oil was

2. Believing everything the sales person says.
Every sales person will assure you that their essential oils are pure and the best available. Read on for some specific tips to better judge for yourself.

3. Not knowing how to read labels on the bottle.

4. Buying an essential oil that comes in a clear or plastic bottle.
A colored bottle helps protect the oil from sunlight that can diminish or destroy its healing properties. True therapeutic grade essential oils should only be sold in a dark brown glass bottle.

5. Not asking for instructions on how to use it.
Equally important is asking about how not to use it.  Kits typically come with written or audio instructions, whereas individual bottles typically do not.

6. Thinking that the best buy is the lowest price.
With essential oils, I've not found this to be the case. The cost often reflects the time it took to distill the oil, and to keep as many healing properties as possible, this can be a slow process.

7. Buying a single oil instead of a collection of oils in a kit.
If I had it to do over again, my first purchase would be a kit containing multiple essential oils. A kit generally allows a person to try a number of essential oils at a more economical price. Another advantage of kits is that they often come with instructions - either paper, CD, or DVD.
My favorite kits are the Essential 7 kit, Everyday Oils kit, Golden Touch kit, Raindrop Technique kit, the 12 Oils of Ancient Scripture kit and the luxurious Aroma Complete kit.

Kits can have 7, 9, 12, or even more than 125 different essential oils for you to try at a time. And when you're ready to get started using essential oils, I invite you to visit http://www.EssentialOilsProducts.com and look for the Essential 7 Kit.
