Essential Oils for Beginners - 7 Tips as You're Opening Your First Kit of Essential Oils
by Kathryn Caywood, LLC
If you have just placed your first order for an essential oil kit, you must be excited! However, you will probably have to wait several days for it to arrive, but when it does, are you going to just let it sit on the counter for awhile or are you going to open it immediately and get started? Below are 7 tips for people who can hardly wait to get started, and who want to get started quickly, easily, and safely.
1. Invite a friend to come open it with you!
You can't imagine how much fun a new essential oil kit is to open -- all those neat little bottles of essential oils with brightly colored labels!
2. Read the information that comes with your kit.
Your instructions may come as a paper copy, a CD to listen to, or even a DVD. It's smart to take the time to do this before proceeding.
3. Be patient.
Once you take the cap off, tilt the bottle and let the oil drip onto the palm of your hand. If it is a thicker oil, it will take a little longer for the first drop to come out, so please be patient.
4. Smelling them.
Some people like to inhale them directly from the bottle. Others like to pour a drop into their hand, rub the hands together, cup the palms near the nose, and inhale that way. You will be able to smell therapeutic grade essential oils from quite a distance when the bottle is open.
5. Diffusing them.
If you bought a diffuser when you purchased your kit, you may want to put 10-20 drops in the well of your diffuser and let the entire room have the scent of your new essential oil.
6. Putting them on.
For people of all ages, the safest place to put essential oils is on the soles of the feet! See the Essential Oils Desk Reference for more ideas.
7. If you accidentally get your new essential oil in your eye ...
You read the users guide that came with your kit, right? But if you did not read the instructions, here is what it probably said. Either wash your eye out with an organic vegetable oil or use a hot wet washcloth.
BONUS TIP: Start easy.
Therapeutic grade essential oils penetrate the skin very quickly, so it's smart to start easy. Open one or two oils the first day, read about them, and then enjoy their aroma or put them on the soles of your feet.
As you use the essential oils in your new kit, you'll gradually become more comfortable with them and use them in many different ways.
